Our latest project was a complete front entry door replacement for a home in Richmond, BC. The homeowners wanted to create a more modern and substantial entrance while improving security, durability, and overall curb appeal.
During the initial consultation, the client selected a custom fiberglass double entry door with an oak grain texture. The doors were finished in Jacobean Gray stain, creating a deep and elegant wood appearance while maintaining the durability, stability, and low maintenance benefits of fiberglass construction.
The design was kept clean and modern, with a strong focus on symmetry and premium detailing. The hardware configuration included 36-inch rectangular pull bars, round T-bar handles, square rosettes, and a German multipoint locking system. This combination created a bold architectural look while providing smooth everyday operation and enhanced security.
A composite frame was selected for improved durability, resistance to moisture, and long term stability. The German multipoint locking system provides multiple locking points along the door, helping create a stronger and more secure entry system while also improving compression against the weather seals.
Challenges and Solutions
The double door configuration required precise installation and alignment to ensure both slabs operated smoothly while maintaining consistent spacing, proper sealing, and a clean symmetrical appearance.
Challenges:
The main challenge of this project was achieving accurate alignment of the large double entry door system within the existing opening. Both door slabs, the composite frame, the hardware components, and the German multipoint locking system had to be positioned precisely to ensure smooth operation and proper engagement of all locking points.
It was also important to maintain consistent reveals throughout the system and achieve a clean transition between the new door frame, threshold, and the surrounding interior finishes. Because of the modern slab design and the visible hardware details, every adjustment had to be completed carefully to preserve the clean and balanced final appearance.
Solutions:
Our installation team completely removed the existing entry system and carefully prepared the opening for the new custom door. The composite frame was installed, levelled, and secured before both fiberglass door slabs were individually adjusted for proper fit and smooth operation.
The hardware configuration, including the 36-inch rectangular pull bars, round T-bar handles, square rosettes, and German multipoint locking system, was then installed and aligned to maintain the visual balance and functionality of the double door design.
Final adjustments were made to the German multipoint locking system and weather seals to ensure secure operation, proper compression, and a tight seal around the entire entry system.
The completed project resulted in a bold and modern entrance that combines the rich appearance of oak grain in Jacobean Gray with the durability of fiberglass, premium hardware details, a composite frame, and enhanced security provided by the German multipoint locking system.
